CROWN POINT — Police found no credible threat after a woman called the Lake County Government Center early Wednesday and said hackers would blow the facility up if children "in cages" were not rescued from the Gary/Chicago International Airport, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.

Investigators determined there was no credible threat to the government center or airport, Lake County sheriff's spokeswoman Pamela Jones said. 

Police were able to identify the caller and speak with her, she said.

Investigators determined the woman, who is in her 40s and lives in Porter County, may be suffering from mental illness, police said.

The woman called the government center about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

“We are working with the Portage Police Department and officials in Porter County to assist in obtaining mental health services for this subject,” Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez said.

No charges have been filed, though the case remains under investigation.
