GRIFFITH — Griffith Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating a Wednesday morning burglary at Blythe's Sporting Goods where the windows were broken out to gain entry and an assortment of guns may have been taken.
Griffith Police Chief Greg Mance said they were called to the store about 4:30 a.m. He said this is the second time in the last few weeks the store has been burglarized and the third time in less than a year.
"I can't say how many guns were stolen," he said. "We're working with the ATF on this. I can't say any more about the nature of this investigation."
The store was also reportedly burglarized on Sept. 28, 2016 and July 12. All three burglaries are still actively being investigated.
Anyone with information about these burglaries is encouraged to call Detective Jim Sibley or Detective John Mowery at 219-924-7503 or the Griffith Police Anonymous Tip Line at 219-922-3085.
Last month, the sporting goods store celebrated 65 years in Northwest Indiana. The store no longer is owned by the Blythe family, who operated the store for several decades. The new president and owner is Jeff Neeley. There also is a store location in Valparaiso.
