CEDAR LAKE — A 21-year-old man was taken into custody Friday after allegedly stabbing his father four times in the back.

According to police, Ian Watt had argued with his father over a sword the father took away from him due to his erratic behavior.

The father then left their home to drive to a nearby relative's house, though unbeknownst to him, his son had jumped into the back of the truck, police said. When they arrived at the relative's house, Watt jumped out and stabbed his father with a buck knife according to police. Watt was able to get into the relative's home and lock the door at which time 911 was called.

Police were called to the scene in the 13600 block of Muir Street at about 7:18 p.m. and captured Watt after he allegedly fled in his father's truck southbound on Wicker Avenue.

Police said Watt's father was transported to a local hospital and is in fair condition.

Watt was taken to Lake County Jail and on Sunday was charged with three felonies — aggravated battery, battery resulting in serious bodily injury and battery by means of a deadly weapon.
