GARY — A man filled a shopping cart with merchandise at a Dollar Tree store, walked by the register without paying and pointed a gun at an employee who attempted to stop him Saturday, police said.

The man continued to exit the store, 2232 Grant St., after the robbery about 6:05 p.m. Sunday and loaded the merchandise in a red Ford pickup truck driven by a second man, Gary police Cmdr. Jack Hamady said.

The pair drove west on West 23rd Avenue.

The man with the gun was described as black and about 50 years old with a white tank top, black pants and a hat.

The driver of the red pickup was described as white and in his 30s with a ponytail.
