A 22-year-old Portage man has been charged with two counts of felony rape and one count each of felony intimidation and domestic battery after he allegedly held a flare gun to a woman's head and forced her to perform a sex act.
According to police, they were called Saturday evening to a home in the 700 block of Camelot Manor.
Police said a woman at the home told them she and Nathaniel Ahearn had been arguing and that Ahearn had a history of physical violence against her. Ahearn allegedly punched her in the face and made threats to harm or kill her using a hammer, fork, box cutter and flare gun.
At one point, he threatened to kill both of them, putting the flare gun to her head and pulling the trigger, but the gun did not fire, the police report states.
The woman told police Ahearn forced her to perform a sex act while he held the flare gun and then told her to undress and raped her.
She told police Ahearn calmed down and left for work. After speaking with a friend, she called police.
Police went to Ahearn's place of employment and arrested him on charges of domestic battery and intimidation. He was transported to Porter County Jail. After conferring with the Porter County prosecutor's office Monday, two charges of rape were added.
Ahearn has an initial hearing Thursday in Porter Superior Court.
