A rape trial expected to begin later this month for Nicholas Medrano, a suspended police officer with the Lake County Sheriff's Office, has been delayed.

Medrano, 34, of Crown Point, was scheduled to appear at a jury trial beginning Dec. 18 on charges of rape, attempted rape, sexual battery and criminal confinement. The suspended officer is accused of sexually assaulting a woman, identified as a co-worker, between Jan. 10, 2013, and June 30, 2014.

The trial date was vacated Friday, according to court records. A court hearing will instead be held Dec. 18.
