Schererville police seek public's help identifying man suspected of shoplifting at T.J. Maxx

This man is suspected of stealing items on Jan. 5 from the T.J. Maxx in Schererville. 

SCHERERVILLE — Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a male suspected of stealing items on Jan. 5 from T.J. Maxx in the Town Square Shopping Center on Main Street.

The man is accused of entering the store at 4:16 p.m. Jan. 5, retrieving a shopping cart and concealing items inside a black sweatshirt he placed in his cart.

Police said the man tried to leave the store at 4:32 p.m. without paying when the loss prevention manager attempted to stop him. The suspect fled through the front doors on foot to a bicycle parked outside the business. 

The suspect is a white male believed to be in his 20s and was wearing a brown coat. He has a tattoo behind his right ear and a large tattoo on his right hand, police said in a news release. 

Some of the stolen items were recovered, but not all of them.
