Hammond Police Station

HAMMOND — Four people were taken into custody after police responded Monday morning to an armed home invasion and sexual assault in the 3000 block of Crane Place.

Those in custody, who have not yet been identified, include three males, ages 21, 18 and 15 and one 19-year-old female, according to police.

Police believe the home invasion was an isolated incident, but are seeking information from the public about the offense.

Police said they responded at 9:45 a.m. to the home invasion in progress. Witnesses had reported that an unknown number of suspects entered the home and displayed multiple firearms in an attempted robbery.

An adult female was sexually assaulted, according to police. One other family member is believed to have been present in the home.

Officers apprehended one suspect in the alley and another was immediately arrested after fleeing the home, police said. As officers secured the area, two other people were apprehended as they attempted to flee.
