PORTAGE — A St. John man was arrested early Tuesday morning after he led police on a chase along Willowcreek Road.
David L. Wilson, 28, was charged with felony counts of being a habitual traffic offender and resisting law enforcement along with misdemeanor counts of reckless driving and no financial responsibility. He was also cited for speeding as police clocked him at driving 70 mph in a 40 mph zone. Additional citations included disregarding traffic signals and having an expired license plate.
Around 3:30 a.m. Monday, police spotted Wilson allegedly driving 70 mph southbound on Willowcreek Road near Mulberry Avenue. The officer attempted to stop Wilson, but he continued to drive southward, crossing U.S. 6. Wilson then turned onto Holmes Avenue and stopped when his 1999 Chevrolet Malibu struck a curb and narrowly missed mailboxes, according to police.
Wilson was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to Porter County Jail.
