GARY — A 57-year-old man was found dead late Thursday in the city's East Glen Park section, officials said.

James D. Franklin, of Gary, died from a gunshot wound in a homicide, according to the Lake County coroner's office.

Gary police were dispatched about 10:45 p.m. to the 4200 block of Kentucky Street for a report of shots fired, Lt. Dawn Westerfield said.

Officers arrived and found a man in the street with gunshot wounds.

Franklin was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:50 p.m., a coroner's release said.
