GARY — A 36-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday in the city's Aetna section, police said.

Gary police found Lashaun A. Virgin, who had addresses in Gary and Merrillville, laying near the corner of East 10th Avenue and New Hampshire Street after they were dispatched about 9 p.m. for a report of a woman screaming for help, authorities said.

While en route, dispatchers informed officers of a gunshot victim.

Virgin was shot in the chest. A woman was leaning over him when officers arrived, police said.

Lake County coroner's investigators pronounced Virgin dead at the scene. His death was ruled a homicide, according to a coroner's release.

Virgin's Gary address was on the same block he was shot, according to the coroner's office.
