CROWN POINT — A Gary woman was charged Friday with child molestation following an investigation into sexualized and inappropriate behaviors displayed by her 5-year-old relative at school, court records say.
Robbin C. Pacewicz, 24, is accused of showing the boy pornographic videos and sexually abusing him.
The boy told several investigators Pacewicz warned him not to tell anyone about the sexual abuse, which occurred between Jan. 24, 2017, and December, Lake Criminal Court records say.
Pacewicz was arrested Friday on two felony counts of child molesting, one count of incest and one count of dissemination of matter harmful to minors.
Pacewicz denied sexually abusing the boy during an interview with police, records state. Not guilty pleas were entered on her behalf during an initial hearing Monday in the Lake County Jail, defense attorney John Cantrell said.
Cantrell said the allegations against Pacewicz are "a complete lie."
Pacewicz is in the middle of a custody battle, and the timing of the charges is suspicious, he said.
Pacewicz is scheduled to appear before Lake Criminal Court Judge Clarence Murray for a bail review hearing Tuesday, the same day she was to appear in a different court for a custody hearing, Cantrell said.
Detectives from the Gary Police Department, the Lake County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana Department of Child Services investigated the case. The boy's school notified the family because of sexual drawings he made, court records allege.
Family members told investigators the boy had been suffering from nightmares, bed wetting, decreased appetite and an increased fear of being in the dark and in a room with the door closed, records say.
