PORTAGE — A 22-year-old Lake Station man faces a charge of public indecency after being seen masturbating last month in the parking lot of the Walmart store at 6087 U.S. 6 in Portage.

A woman told police she saw Hunter Brennan fondling himself shortly before 8 a.m. May 16, police said.

Brennan, who was spotted in his parked vehicle, reportedly told police he was looking at pornography. He also admitted that he was exposing himself from his shorts.

Brennan was arrested in the case Sunday night, according to online jail records.

The charge of public indecency is a misdemeanor and the case is pending before Porter Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Thode.

Similar charges will likely be filed in Lake County after Brennan was arrested Sunday outside a New Chicago laundromat, New Chicago Police Chief James Richardson said.

Richardson said his officers responded just before 7 p.m. Sunday to a suspicious person call where Brennan was found "doing the same thing."

The police chief said prosecutors are looking into Brennan's criminal history and that if the Lake Station man has prior convictions, charges filed in Lake County could run higher than the Porter County misdemeanor.

Times staff writer Carley Lanich contributed to this report.
