EAST CHICAGO — A woman arrived early Sunday to find her boyfriend had been gunned down inside a home, police said.

Jeffery Lowe, 45, of East Chicago, died from gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen, according to the Lake County coroner's office. 

East Chicago police were called about 1:20 a.m. to the home in the 3700 block of Deal Street after the woman reported she found the front door ajar and her boyfriend inside on the floor not breathing, Deputy Police Chief Jose Rivera said.

Lowe was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was ruled a homicide, a coroner's release said.
