MICHIGAN CITY — Police have identified a 41-year-old man shot to death early Saturday as Demetrice Taylor, of Michigan City.

Taylor was discovered shortly before 2 a.m. after an on-duty police officer heard shots in the city's Eastport neighborhood.

The department also received a 911 call that someone had been shot in the 200 block of Grace Street, police said.

"Within moments of the call, officers arrived at the scene," according to the department.

An investigation is underway with the help of the LaPorte County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and the LaPorte County Sheriff’s investigation team, police said. Neighbors, acquaintances and relatives have been interviewed.
