WHITING — Police arrested two 18-year-olds on charges of resisting arrest late Tuesday after they ran from officers investigating a report of two men trying to break into a garage, an official said.

Joshua S. Wells, 18, of Hammond, and Elias J. Costello, 18, of East Chicago, were taken into custody in the 1800 block of Central Avenue in Whiting.

Whiting police were dispatched to the 1600 block of Central Avenue for a report of two men dressed in all black attempting a break-in, Police Chief Steve Miller said.

An officer spotted two men in all black walking east on 118th Street near LaPorte Avenue, according to a police report.

The officer attempted to stop the men in an alley, but they ran between houses and through yards and disregarded police commands to stop, the report said.

Another officer saw them running in the 1800 block of Central and held them at gunpoint until other officers arrived. The two were taken to the Whiting Police Department pending bond.
