CROWN POINT — A Merrillville woman whose toddler was kicked during a home invasion Jan. 12 is accused of pepper-spraying one of her alleged assailants just days before at a Hobart motel.
April L. Kuchta, 24, attacked Man-nisha D. Bowers, 20, of Valparaiso, as Bowers slept in a bed Jan. 6 in a motel room rented by a woman both Kuchta and Bowers apparently have dated, court records state.
Bowers told police she also once dated Kuchta, before Kuchta served prison time, records say. Bowers said they broke up because Kuchta was "crazy."
Kuchta was charged Monday with felony domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury and misdemeanor battery.
Bowers and her sister, Donisha L. Bowers, 23, of Gary, were charged Jan. 14 with burglary, criminal confinement, two counts of battery, pointing a firearm and criminal mischief.
They are accused of breaking into Kuchta's home Jan. 12, attacking Kuchta and the girlfriend also involved with Man-nisha Bowers and kicked an 18-month-old child. Man-nisha Bowers also threatened to kill Kuchta while holding a knife, records say.
Newly filed charges allege Kuchta entered the Hobart motel room after the girlfriend left with a child, jumped on Man-nisha Bowers and pinned her down and warned she had a knife. Bowers never saw a knife, records say.
Kuchta pepper-sprayed Bowers' face and punched her, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Man-nisha Bowers has a bail review hearing set for Feb. 6. Donisha Bowers' bail review hearing is set for Feb. 7.
Kuchta was not in custody as of Monday, court records showed.
