A 20-year-old man was charged Wednesday in connection with a shooting June 13 in Gary that wounded a 19-year-old pregnant woman and an 18-year-old man, police said.

Jarod DeAngelo Johnson, 20, of Gary, faces two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of battery by means of a deadly weapon, two counts of battery resulting in serious bodily injury and one count of battery resulting in injury to a pregnant woman.

Johnson was not in custody as of Thursday afternoon, Gary police said.

The man was shot in the face and leg in the area of West Fifth Avenue and Madison Street. The woman, who is five months pregnant, was shot in the abdomen, police said.

Johnson knew the man and woman, both from Gary, and had been with them earlier in the day, police said.
