18-year-old man charged with shooting 17-year-old

MICHIGAN CITY — An 18-year-old Michigan City man has been charged in connection with a shooting Monday in the city that left a 17-year-old injured, police said.

Jason Green Jr. faces felony counts of aggravated battery and battery committed with a deadly weapon, according to police.

Police said they were called out shortly before noon Monday in reference to shots fired in the 400 block of East Homer Street. They reported finding a 17-year-old person with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to a lower extremity.

Green was reportedly taken into custody less than an hour after the shooting as a result of help from witnesses and a quick response by investigators, police said.

Green is being held at the LaPorte County Jail on a $25,000 cash only bond, police said.

"At no time were any students from Marsh Elementary School in danger," according to Lieutenant Tim Richardson. "This is an isolated incident and there is no future threat to community."

Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact Corporal Rodriguez at 219-874-3221, extension 1062.
