HAMMOND — A 21-year-old man was taken to a local hospital Wednesday night after crashing into the front porch of a home in the 3000 block of 165th Street, police said.

The man disregarded a stop sign at 165th and California Avenue and rolled through a yard at a low rate of speed before hitting the porch, Lt. Steven Kellogg said.

The man was unconscious when police arrived but did not appear to have suffered any injuries as a result of the crash, police said.

A family was home, but no one inside the home was injured, police said.

Because the driver was unconscious, he was not immediately tested for alcohol, Kellogg said.

The crash — including whether alcohol was a factor — remained under investigation, he said.
