HAMMOND — A 17-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the head in a homicide early Tuesday, police say.

Dante Figueroa, of Hammond, was found about 12:30 a.m. inside a home in the 7000 block of Lindberg Avenue. He was taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary, where he later died at 1:32 a.m.

"This investigation is active, however, the suspect and the victim are believed to have been known to each other and there is not believed to be any public threat at this time," Lt. Steve Kellogg said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sgt. John Suarez at 219-852-2981.
