VALPARAISO — A 48-year-old Portage man is behind bars on accusations of repeatedly molesting a young family member, telling the child once police were called, "I thought you liked that (expletive)," according to a newly filed charging document.
Terence Maman Sr. is charged with six felony counts of child molesting and felony incest, records show.

Portage police said they were called Friday to a local school where a teacher reported receiving an email from a student stating Maman was touching the child inappropriately.
"It's been happening since the beginning of the year and I'm scared," the child wrote.
When police went to the Portage home to talk to Maman, he reportedly refused to let officers speak to the child. Police called child protective services and a representative was able to gain access to the child.

The girl said as she resisted on one of those occasions, Adams struck her in the head, causing her to momentarily lose consciousness, police said.
Maman reportedly told the CPS worker he did touch the child inappropriately, according to police.
The child went on to describe numerous incidents of being molested by Maman beginning in August and the last being Wednesday, police said.
The child provided police with an audio recording of a conversation with Maman after police arrived Friday. On it, Maman reportedly admits knowing what he did was wrong and yet did it multiple times.
At the time of his overdose, he was babysitting four children ranging in age from 10 to 5, police said.
It was during that recording that Maman tells the child he thought the abuse was liked by the child, police said.
"I'll never (expletive) do it again, dude," Maman reportedly said. "I swear to God."
The child responds, "No."
The criminal case is pending before Porter Circuit Court Judge Mary DeBoer.
