Try 3 months for $3

DYER | Two Dyer police officers are joining the multiagency SWAT team in Merrillville, police officials said last month.

Patrolmen Jerry Patrick and Aaron Amptmeyer have been accepted for training, Police Chief Richard Quinn reported at the Dyer Metropolitan Police Commission in March.

The team also includes officers from Merrillville, Schererville and Crown Point.

Dyer does not have a SWAT team of its own.

"Hopefully, we'll never have to use it," but if a situation arose, the town could immediately call on the interagency team, Assistant Police Chief David Hein said.

Although Patrick is a former Marine, neither officer has prior SWAT experience. - By Mary Wilds, Times Correspondent
