Book, Brushes & Bands for Education is seeking volunteers to take part in a new initiative taking part inside Hammond schools.
A new partnership with the School City of Hammond will bring story hour to all second grade classrooms.
 BBB4E is seeking volunteers from the Hammond Police Department, Hammond schools and other community youth organizations to read to the students between Feb. 26 and March 1.
The book being read to the second graders is "How to be a Lion" by Ed Vere.Â
To commemorate Read Across America Day on March 2, a free event will take place on the first floor of the Hammond Public Library from 1 to 4 p.m. Attendees will be able to take part in art and writing projects appropriate for all ages. Volunteers will also read books, including "How to be a Lion".
The Hammond-based nonprofit, known for its door-to-door book deliveries, provides activities centered around literacy, and visual and musical arts for children.Â
