WESTVILLE — The LaPorte County League of Women Voters and the LaPorte County Better Government Study Group are co-sponsoring an informational conference on township government from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 18 at the James Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex at Purdue University Northwest, 1401 U.S. 421.
Deborah Driskell, executive director and legal counsel for the Indiana Township Government Association, will be the keynote speaker.
The conference is designed for township trustees and members of trustee boards as well as anyone interested in or concerned about township government.
Driskell will provide an overview of township government, clarifying essential services, legal requirements and opportunities for gaining efficiency and effectiveness. Other sessions will include an exploration of possible mergers of townships, compliance with public record access, guidance for providing township assistance and election and political campaigning issues for incumbents and potential candidates.
Center Township Trustee Lisa Pierzakowski and Justin Kiel, publisher of The Regional News and Westville Indicator, will also speak.
