VALPARAISO — Gary Germann will return to the Porter County Prosecutor's office, a job he held from 1978 to 1982.

In vote totals released at noon Friday, Germann, a Democrat, received 34,398 votes to incumbent Republican prosecutor Brian Gensel's 29,230 votes.

In other key races:

Democrat Jessica Bailey apparently defeated present County Recorder Jon Miller for the county clerk's race with a 31,773 to 31,188 vote total.

Present County Clerk, Karen Martin, was apparently defeated by incumbent Democrat Vicki Urbanik by a 33,386 for Urbanik to 25,546 for Martin.

Incumbent County Commission for Center District, Republican Jeff Good garnered 32,622 votes to his opponent Democrat Donna Perdue's 30,312 votes.

Republican County Council District 1 Councilman Andy Bozak is in a tight race with his opponent Democrat Bob Poparad. There is a 15-vote total difference with Poparad receiving 9,032 votes to Bozak's 9,017 votes.

Republican Cyndi Dykes outpaced Democrat Randy Wilkening for the Porter County Coroner's race, 32,895 to 30,027.

Republican Chuck Harris also outpaced Democrat Lily Schaefer for the Porter County Recorder's race, 32,366 to 30,355.

No vote totals are final until they are certified on Nov. 16.
