CROWN POINT | Lake Criminal Court Judge Clarence Murray sentenced Allan "Twig" Simmons on Friday to three years of probation for vote fraud during the May 2003 East Chicago primary election.

Simmons, 39, pleaded guilty March 23 to three counts of fraudulent application, showing, examination, receipt or delivery of ballots.

Murray also ordered Simmons to perform 100 hours of community service.

Contrary to the law, Simmons, of Hammond, admitted he knowingly examined ballots prepared by three different voters in the primary election in East Chicago's Precinct 3 before the ballots were cast.
