Hammond stars to dance the night away

HAMMOND | The Hammond Academy for the Performing Arts at Morton High School will present its Dancing with the Hammond Stars competition at 7 p.m. Saturday at Morton High School’s Main Auditorium, 6915 Grand Ave.  

This unique event is a ballroom competition with members of the Hammond community and HAPA Dance Ensemble competing for a mirror ball trophy - just like the TV show.

The production will feature Hammond Academy for the Performing Arts Dance students and the HAPA Dance Ensemble. The Hammond Stars competing for a trophy include Joe Britt - teacher/athletic director at Scott Middle School, Katherine Broadnax- teacher at Morton High School, John Huber -teacher at Morton High School, Josh Long - coordinator with the Hammond Education Foundation, and Athene Pappas - Morton High School administrative assistant.

The performance will also feature Generations Dance Theatre, a local multigenerational dance company.

In addition, the Hammond Academy for the Performing Arts will host free dance classes from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. All ages are welcome to learn their choice of jazz, hip-hop, ballroom, yoga, creative dance classes for children and more. No reservations are required, however space is limited, so come early to secure a spot.
