Will County Sheriff Paul Kaupas on Thursday is expected to announce the latest results in the investigation into the Oct. 5 bistate shootings and their connection to the death of an Illinois man shot with his own gun during a botched robbery attempt on Saturday, a source close to the investigation told The Times.

A press conference has been scheduled to reveal the results of ballistics tests on the weapon recovered Saturday from the L.A. Tan in Orland Park, Ill., where Gary Amaya, 48, of Rankin, Ill., was shot and killed by a customer who walked in on the robbery.

When asked if the testing linked the gun to the bistate shootings of three people near Beecher and Lowell, the source said, "There wouldn't be a press conference" if that were not the case.
