Region roads were slick, and snow was accumulating on Porter County roads west of Ind. 49 Thursday morning, officials said.
A winter weather advisory for Lake and Porter counties continues through 11 a.m. Thursday.
Porter County government said in a Facebook post that snow was sticking to roads west of Ind. 49 in unincorporated areas. Plow/salt trucks were deployed.
Total accumulations of 2 to 4 inches were possible, according to the National Weather Service. Drivers should be prepared for reduced visibility, forecasters said.
Bands of lake-effect snow showers were expected to move onshore from near the Illinois-Indiana state line to Lake County and parts of Porter County, the weather service said. Northern Lake County could see the most snow.
