219 Health Network now offers rapid COVID-19 testing at two Northwest Indiana locations

The 219 Health Network at 100 W. Chicago Ave. in East Chicago offers free rapid tests for the coronavirus, as well as COVID-19 vaccinations.

Another three people were reported dead from COVID-19 across Northwest Indiana's five-county area, updated data showed.

New deaths included one in Lake County and two in LaPorte County, according to statistics provided Thursday by the Indiana State Department of Health and the Porter County Health Department.

Local deaths were included among 11 more reported statewide. A total of 12,913 Hoosiers have died from the respiratory disease to date.

New deaths were reported between Jan. 9 and Wednesday. All data was provisional and subject to change as more data is reported to the state.

In all, 1,526 people in Northwest Indiana have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began, including 955 in Lake County, 283 in Porter County, 207 in LaPorte County, 47 in Jasper County and 34 in Newton County, according to ISDH and the Porter County Health Department.

A total of 86,940 Northwest Indiana residents have tested positive, following corrections to the previous day's totals.

County totals included 52,697 in Lake County, up 128; 18,119 in Porter County, up 69; 11,495 in LaPorte County, up 49; 3,576 in Jasper County, up eight; and 1,053 in Newton County, up two.

Across the state line, Calumet City reported 3,706 cases, up six from the previous day. Lansing reported 3,339 cases, up seven, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The Porter County Health Department hosted a two-day vaccine clinic starting Sunday at the Porter County Expo Center in Washington Township. The clinic is expected to inoculate up to 2,800 people with their first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

Seven-day positivity rates in Northwest Indiana counties included 6.1% in Lake County, down from 6.2% the day before; 7.2% in Porter County, down from 7.4%; 9.4% in LaPorte County, down from 9.6%; 5.1% in Newton County, down from 6.5%; and 6% in Jasper County, up from 5.9%.

The percentage of Indiana's total population who have been fully vaccinated rose to 33.9%, data showed.

To date, 1,840,696 Hoosiers have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, up from 1,798,858 the previous day, according to state health officials.
