DEMOTTE | Two men were charged in connection with a theft and home burglary Sunday in Prairie View Estates in rural DeMotte, Jasper County sheriff's police said.

Brandon C. Skratsky, 29, of DeMotte, and Kyle W. Zylstra, 22, of Wheatfield, were arrested after the burglary victim recognized the men's vehicle as having been near his home just before the crimes occurred Sunday morning, police said.

The theft and burglary were reported about 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Deputies determined hunting apparel, footwear and bicycles were taken from the man's garage and tools were stolen from a neighbor's work truck.

About 12:30 p.m. Sunday, the burglary victim spotted the suspects' vehicle in DeMotte, police said. Deputies arrived, and the victim identified property in Skratsky and Zylstra's vehicle as his, police said.

Zylstra admitted Skratsky had entered the victim’s garage and removed the stolen items, police said.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for Skratsky's residence and recovered numerous stolen items, police said.

Zylstra was charged with possession of stolen property.

Skratsky was charged with burglary, attempted burglary and two counts of theft.
