Police said the snow Sunday contributed to a fatal crash on Interstate 65 in Jasper County and a jack-knifed semi that blocked three lanes on eastbound Interstate 80/94.

Glen A. Sharp, 62, of Wheatfield, was driving south on I-65 about 1 p.m. when he lost control of his 2008 GMC Sierra pickup truck about 4.5 miles south of the DeMotte exit and was struck by a semitrailer, Indiana State Police said.

The 37-year-old driver of a 2019 Freightliner pulling a tanker was unable to avoid the crash, police said. The highway was covered in snow.

Sharp was trapped inside the pickup and later pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver was not injured.

A 47-year-old Texas man driving a 2013 Freightliner and tanker east on Interstate 80/94 lost control about 5 p.m., hit a concrete median about 1 mile west of Central Avenue and jack-knifed, police said.

The road was covered with snow and slush at the time. The semi came to rest facing east, blocking three lanes and leaking diesel fuel.

Police said the driver, John Hayden, 47, of Heartland, Texas, was going too fast for conditions.
