Sandy Lewis, center, a member of Holy Name of Jesus Christ Catholic Church in Cedar Lake, presents a $1,575 check to resident adviser Valorie Funchess, left, and Liz Guzman-Arredondo, right, manager of St. Monica Home, located on the campus of Franciscan St. Margaret Health Dyer. The donation came from money collected during the church’s Baby Bottle Ministry campaign, in which parishioners filled more than 350 bottles with money and checks. The parish raised approximately $6,300, which was distributed to St. Monica Home and three other local charitable programs. St. Monica Home has offered, since 1994, a medically sound and emotionally healthy residential environment for women 12 to 21 awaiting the birth of a child. Residents, whose average length of stay is nine months, learn positive relationships and parenting skills under the guidance of experienced resident advisers such as Funchess.
