MERRILLVILLE | Prospective volunteers are invited to attend a Volunteer Orientation and Training Session this month at the Meals on Wheels Community Room, 8446 Virginia St.

One-hour sessions will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, and 1:30 p.m. Thursday. At each session, applicants will have an opportunity to tour the facility and ask questions about Meals on Wheels and its services. Tenured drivers are encouraged to attend a session to update themselves on any changes that may have been made.

Each day, volunteers assist in the delivery of more than 1,500 meals throughout Lake County. According to Volunteer Manager Joan Vith, volunteers are needed for all routes throughout Lake County. “However, at the moment, we are particularly in need in the Cedar Lake and Hobart areas,” she said.

“In addition to individuals, many area organizations also participate in our volunteer program. We rely on the generosity of our civic volunteers to deliver in the communities they serve. The Rotary, Kiwanians, and Chambers of Commerce are valuable to ensuring ‘”No senior goes hungry,” said Vith.

To register for training, or for more information, contact Vith at (219)-756-3663 or joan@mealsonwheelsnwindiana.org.
