Woodworking plant to expand office space in C.P.

CROWN POINT | A woodworking plant whose clients include a Marriott hotel in Indianapolis is expanding its office space.

D & L Wood Products Inc., 615 N. Indiana Ave., plans a 6,000-square-foot office building at the site, owner Bob Ligda said. An existing structure at the site is being demolished to make way for the new building, Ligda said.

"It will be a bigger and more modern building," Ligda said.

The office space connects to a 15,000-square-foot wood works at the location, Ligda said.

The company employs 20 who install custom casework and wood products in hospitality venues across the country, including in the lobby, restaurants, convention center and guest rooms of the 1,005-room JW Marriott in Indianapolis, Ligda said.

The business started in 1992, transforming a former golf ball manufacturing plant at the Indiana Avenue site into a woodwork shop.

The company this week won preliminary approval from the Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety for a variance permitting the installation of air conditioners on the north side of the planned new office building.

The Public Works Board granted the variance, and an easement of about 1 foot of city property along the building's north side, pending a review by the city's legal and engineering departments.
