MUNSTER — Frigid weather caused a pipe to burst and the ceiling to collapse Tuesday night at Hartsfield Village senior living facility, but no one was injured, according to Munster Fire Department Chief Dave Pelc.
Fire crews were called a little before 7 p.m. to 10000 Columbia Ave., in Munster, for a report of a ceiling collapse in the assisted-living/rehabilitation wing of the building.
About 10 residents have been evacuated to other sections of the building and everyone is accounted for, he said.
About three floors had standing water. The building's sprinkler system was shut off, mitigating some of the flooding, he said.
At about 7:15 p.m., Pelc said he expected his crew to remain on scene for about another hour to assist staff with cleanup.
