GARY — Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson has been elected second vice president of the National League of Cities Leadership and board of directors.
She'll serve a one-year term in 2017 as second vice president and will move to first vice president in 2018. The mayor ultimately will serve as president of the organization.

She was elected to that spot during the league's City Summit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
As at that summit, Gary was recognized for its No. 1 rank in the Let's Move! Cities, Town and Counties initiative.
