HAMMOND | Hammond police said Monday they issued 711 citations last month during two separate traffic safety programs.
The first program focused on aggressive driving, impaired driving and seat belt and child restraint violations, according to a news release. Officers issued 568 citations as part of that program, including 237 for seat belt and child restraint violations, 113 for speeding and 45 for stop sign and stoplight violations.
Officers also issued 143 citations, primarily for speeding in school zones, as part of a pedestrian and bicycle safety grant.
Hammond police will participate in the Click It or Ticket campaign until May 31 and will continue the pedestrian and bicycle grant through the end of the month.
