HAMMOND | Fishing enthusiasts can compete for prizes in Hammond's Festival of the Lakes Fishing Derby between 8 a.m. and noon on July 23.

Participants have to pay a $1 donation to support Wolf Lake Stocking and kids under the age of 15 will get free fishing equipment while supplies last. A free seminar will be held at 10 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded for the largest bass, walleye and pan fish catch in two age divisions: under 12 and 12 and older.

The festival is at Wolf Lake Memorial Park, 2938 S. Calumet Ave. The event is for shore-fishing only. The rain date is July 24 at the same time.
