GARY — A Lake Station woman died Monday at an Illinois hospital from injuries she suffered in a crash April 17 in the city's Miller section, officials said.

Shannan Rae Cornelius, 28, died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn from multiple blunt-force injuries, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

She was involved in a vehicle crash April 17 in the 8800 block of Melton Road in Gary, a medical examiner's spokeswoman said. Cornelius' death was ruled an accident.

Gary police responded about 6:45 p.m. April 17 to a crash in that area involving a Jeep and a Pontiac Grand Am, Lt. Dawn Westerfield said.

At least two people were taken to hospitals, including one woman who was extricated from a vehicle, she said.
