MERRILLVILLE — A woman found dead Wednesday might have drowned in an in-ground pool, police said.

The death of Sandra Serba, 46, was ruled accidental, according to a Lake County coroner's release. Her cause of death remained pending.

Serba was alone at a home in the 7600 block of Lincolnway in Merrillville before her death, Merrillville police Detective George Fields said.

The homeowner, with whom Serba stayed with sometimes, found her upon returning home, he said.

Police responded about 7:32 p.m. for an unresponsive person. Coroner's investigators pronounced Serba dead at the scene.

The death remains under investigation, Fields said.
