MERRILLVILLE | Police don't believe foul play is involved in a juvenile runaway case the department is investigating.
David Cotto, 16, of Merrillville, hasn't returned home since May 2, Merrillville police Sgt. Jeff Rice said.
He said police are treating the situation "more as a runaway than a missing person."
Rice said Cotto was last seen Monday at Thornton Fractional South High School in Lansing with two other males. Cotto was attempting to enroll in the school, Rice said.
He said Cotto knows how to contact his family, but the teenager hasn't recently.
Cotto is prescribed medication "to keep him focused," but Cotto hasn't taken the medication since last week, Rice said.
Cotto is 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 180 pounds, according to a police report. He was wearing a black shirt, black sweatpants and black shoes when he was last seen.
