Munster Aurelio's to remain closed up to 5 months for repairs because of fire

Firefighters work outside the Aurelio's Pizza in Munster, where a small fire Nov. 1 damaged the restaurant.

MUNSTER — The Aurelio's Pizza damaged in a fire last week will remained closed for up to five months for repairs, a spokeswoman said.

A small fire Nov. 1 at the front of the restaurant in the 400 block of Ridge Road likely was caused by a short in a transformer in a roof sign, a fire official said.

Firefighters tore into the building's roof to extinguish the fire.

The building needs to be gutted and will not reopen for four to five months, company spokeswoman Rebecca Randall said.

Customers who go the Hammond Aurelio's Pizza will receive a discount on dine-in and carry-out orders for following the Munster Aurelio's Facebook page, she said.
