MUNSTER | The documentary "Rise Above the Mark," examining the challenges of public education in the current financial and political environment, will be shown at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Munster High School auditorium.
The 65-minute film, narrated by award winning actor and narrator Peter Coyote, documents the effects of corporate reforms on public education across the nation. The film also highlights interviews with other supporters of public education around the state and country as well as testimony from teachers on their struggles.
The film is intended to serve as a catalyst to educate the public and kindle a dialogue on what parents, residents and educators can do to protect their local public schools.
After the showing, a panel consisting of experts and stakeholders in public education, including teachers, students, parents and politicians will discuss reactions to the film.
Rocky Killion, Superintendent of the Year at West Lafayette Schools, and Steve Tripenfeldas, assistant superintendent of School Town of Munster, will head the forum. The panel will serve as a platform on the future of public education and the challenges it faces, including the effects of charter schools, vouchers and testing.
The panel also will entertain questions from the audience submitted in advance. To submit a question, please click the following link: http://tinyurl.com/munsterrise
