Valley Community Players create a new world for 'Shrek The Musical'

'Beauty and the Beast'

Book signing at Chesterton's European Market

Local author Heather Augustyn will be signing books for purchase at Chesterton's European Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 21. Augustyn is author of five books on Jamaican music and ska including her newest, Alpha Boys' School: Cradle of Jamaican Music for which she has been invited to speak and will attend the Rototom Sunsplash Music Festival in Benicassim, Spain next month. She will be playing music from the musicians of Alpha Boys' School and talking about her work during the signing.

Summer Educator Workshop Series offered

Formal and non-formal educators are invited to join in an exciting series of workshops focusing on science in our national parks. These workshops take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 24 at the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education. Each day will include a variety of resources and hands-on activities to enhance your classroom teaching. Daily topics include Exploring Citizen Science, July 24; Exploring the World of Sounds, July 25; Invasive Species, July 26 and Your Local Water, July 27. Educators can choose one day or all four. LaPorte Hospital offers Safe Sitter classes

LaPorte Hospital is offering Safe Sitter courses for young teens, grades 6-8, to help them learn about home safety and the basic about how to be a safe babysitter. The next class is Aug. 2 at the hospital. Pre-registration is required by calling (219) 326-2322. The cost is $45.
