HAMMOND | A Portage man is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl, police said.
Christopher J. Bodnar, 19, was charged last week with child molesting, a Level 3 felony. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Hammond police and the Lake County sheriff's department began investigating Bodnar this summer after the girl's mother became aware of the relationship. According to the affidavit, the girl told police she met Bodnar through a friend.
She said the friendship escalated in late spring and resulted in sexual incidents in Hammond, according to the affidavit. The two communicated through Facebook and Kik messenger.
Bodnar's DNA was found on the girl's clothes that her mother had turned over to police, according to the affidavit.
He was previously sentenced to probation in Jasper County on a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor, according to court records.
