SCHERERVILLE — The Plan Commission approved the rezoning of a property along U.S. 30 despite some pushback from residents who worried that its close proximity to a subdivision might pose problems for the neighborhood.
The Adams-Ramsey property, 11 U.S. 30, was originally meant to be a commercial parcel but a mapping error designated it as R-1 residential. A subdivision subsequently grew up around the parcel and to the north of the parcel.
Leonore Adams-Raney, who is trustee of the trust that manages the property, petitioned for the zoning to be changed to P.O. professional office. The Plan Commission voted to approve the rezoning despite neighbors’ objections.
Neighbors said the town already has plenty of professional office space that is going unfilled, and that increased traffic in the area a business might negatively affect the neighborhood’s quality of life.
