SCHERERVILLE | Nathan C. Splant Foundation's Fifth Annual Racing for Babies fundraiser will hit the track May 28 at Illiana Motor Speedway, 7211 U.S. 30. Gates open at 4 p.m. and the first race will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is $12 and children under 7 are admitted free.
"Please join us and help support premature children and families," said Kim Splant, who established the foundation with her husband, Philip, in 2004, after their son, Nathan, was born 15 weeks prematurely.
Each year, the foundation welcomes supporters and guests to Racing for Babies, offering donated auction items for bidding along with event T-shirt sales, face painting and special guest appearances. "In 2010, we added the 'Racing for a Cause and Give Five Program,' which gave everyone the opportunity - the day of the event - to autograph the race car hood donated by Five Star, for a donation. This was a great success and will be available once again," Splant said.
This year, the #52 Super Late Model Race Team headed by driver Phil Splant will have a show car on the midway dedicated to help raise prematurity awareness in combination with their Racing for a Cause efforts. " So bring your camera for a picture with the race car," added Splant.
"For the past five years, with the support of generous event sponsors, local businesses and individuals like you, the foundation has raised thousands of dollars for premature children and their families," said Splant. "Please help us continue to reach out to as many local children and families as possible through this event by joining us on May 28."
The foundation is offering several ways to support the event:
Event T-Shirt Sponsorship - a minimum $200 donation (name/business listed on the back of the Event T-shirts).
Sponsor a Lap - a minimum $25 donation (name/business listed on the racing division Event Banner).
Silent auction items.
"The foundation's contribution truly makes a difference in the lives of the children, their families and to our community," Splant said. The Nathan C. Splant Foundation is a 501 (c) (3), nonprofit organization and donations are fully tax-deductible in accordance with IRS regulations.
