Sinkhole opens by former Tilted Kilt at Southlake Mall

A sinkhole has opened in the parking lot of the Tilted Kilt by the Southlake Mall in Hobart.

A small sinkhole has opened in the parking lot of the closed Tilted Kilt restaurant on the outskirts of the Southlake Mall property in Hobart.

The sinkhole has caused a light pole to tilt precipitously by the Starbucks on Mississippi Street.

Hobart police and fire and Southlake Mall management did not immediately respond to messages.

No one had cordoned off the sinkhole as of early Wednesday afternoon, but it's in the parking lot of a restaurant that has been closed since the end of 2015. The franchisee of the Tilted Kilt, a Las Vegas-based chain known as the "Scottish Hooters" or "Irish Hooters" since its female wait staff wear plaid bras and short kilts, shuttered the Hobart restaurant after about six years and dozens of negative online reviews.
